Our Waterfront & Coastal Team and Projects
Tighe & Bond’s Waterfront and Coastal team provides specialized engineering services for clients throughout the Northeast, focusing on the planning, design, and rehabilitation of waterfront infrastructure. Our projects include the design of piers, docks, bulkheads, seawalls, boat ramps, pile-supported structures, and shoreline stabilization systems for municipalities, ports, industrial facilities, and institutions. We work closely with architects, geotechnical engineers, permitting specialists, and environmental scientists to deliver resilient and sustainable waterfront solutions that address both infrastructure needs and environmental constraints.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a valuable part of our Land Use Waterfront team, a Staff Engineer 2 will support a variety of projects and gain hands-on experience with responsibilities such as:
What You’ll Need
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred)
3 - 5 years of experience in structural or coastal engineering, with a focus on waterfront or marine projects preferred
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification strongly preferred; PE license progression encouraged
Familiarity with structural design codes (ASD/LRFD, ACI, AISC, etc.) and marine design guidelines (e.g., USACE, NAVFAC)
Experience with structural analysis tools such as RISA, STAAD, LPILE, or similar software
Strong AutoCAD skills; experience with Revit or other BIM tools is a plus
Excellent technical writing, organization, and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines, manage priorities, and adapt to shifting project needs
Willingness to travel for occasional site visits, inspections, and project meetings.
Preferred Requirements
Experience with waterfront permitting processes and coordination with regulatory agencies
Knowledge of hydrodynamic and coastal processes or exposure to coastal resilience planning
Field experience with marine construction, inspections, or materials testing
Familiarity with construction documentation and public bidding processes
Active involvement in professional organizations such as ASCE’s Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute (COPRI) or PIANC
