Our Waterfront and Coastal Team and Projects
Our Waterfront and Coastal group specializes in providing planning and engineering services to address the challenges of coastal and waterfront storm damage on infrastructure. With climate change having a significant impact on numerous communities, we focus on preventative measures to ensure resilience. Our team of nearly 120 Land Use & Transportation professionals across our 17 regional offices is dedicated to supporting our coastal resiliency projects.

Responsibilities, Requirements, and Total Rewards

What You’ll Be Doing

As a valuable part of our Waterfront and Coastal Team, a Project Manager will guide clients through every phase of project development, from conception to construction completion with responsibilities such as:

  • Manage coastal infrastructure projects from conceptual design through construction completion, including port, pier, dock, and industrial waterfront facilities, seawalls, revetments, bulkheads, and shoreline restoration
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, fostering strong relationships, understanding project objectives, and ensuring exceptional client service
  • Develop and monitor project budgets, implement schedules, and ensure adherence to project timelines and cost estimates
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance for permit applications, design drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and reports
  • Collaborate with other design disciplines, regulatory agencies, and contractors to ensure seamless project delivery and compliance with industry standards
  • Oversee construction-phase services, including inspections, submittal reviews, and resolution of technical issues
  • Lead and mentor staff engineers and other technical staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth
  • Ensure that Tighe & Bond’s high standards of quality and technical excellence are maintained across all project deliverables
  • Manage and review projects involving retaining walls, fendering systems, pile-supported structures, boat ramps, and other geo-structural elements
  • Oversee the development of permit applications and ensure project compliance with local, state, and federal regulations

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or related engineering field
  • Minimum of 10 years of consulting engineering experience with increasing responsibility in the waterfront industry
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Proven experience in managing coastal infrastructure projects and leading multidisciplinary project teams
  • Strong technical skills in coastal engineering, geotechnical investigations, and structural design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to clients, stakeholders, and team members
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills to support the growth of project engineers and staff

Preferred Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Civil, Coastal, or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Experience with permitting processes, including preparation of environmental and regulatory documentation
  • Familiarity with sustainable coastal design practices and resilience planning
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other coastal modeling tools
  • Knowledge of construction management and inspection practices for coastal projects
